The yellow school bus. 🚌 Do you recognise these from the movies?

By Kirsten Halcrow
You grow up seeing them on TV, probably still do — part of every American childhood storyline — and then suddenly, it’s parked outside your house, and your kids are climbing aboard like it’s the most normal thing in the world.

But for me? It still feels surreal.

This big, bright, unapologetically yellow bus rolling through the neighborhood like a scene straight out of a 90s movie.

What’s wild is that while everything else has changed — phones, cars, tech, even how we shop — the yellow school bus hasn’t.

Same shape. Same stop sign arm. Same black-and-yellow paint job. It’s like a living piece of Americana, still doing its rounds, generation after generation.

There’s something strangely comforting about that — this little piece of American heritage rolling down the street every morning.

It hasn’t all been easy. Emigrating is messy and magical all at once. This is one of the little magical moments 🚌 🪄
